[Edit 2] Zamzar file is downloading now. Longest twenty-four minutes of my life. I hope I hope I hope it worked right. D:
[Edit 3] Sweet. Came out pretty well. A few glitches, but only one is in a place I actually need it, and I should be able to either work around that entirely or just snip the glitch out.
Trying to remake a once-made AMV, but with better clips, at better quality, with better timing... overall better.
Windows Movie Maker hates me. Or, more accurately, it hates the high-quality DivX-encoded .avi from which I am drawing the majority of my clips. It crashes about every two minutes, and while I am making some progress during those minutes, this is really not how I'd rather work (toggling between the Start Menu, WMM and Task Manager and saving every 20 seconds is kind of non-productive).
Went to
Zamzar and uploaded said .avi for conversion to .wmv (because Super(C) absolutely fucking hates me for some reason; it hasn't coded videos right for months). Still waiting on it to email me saying it finished. I... kind of (a) don't really have high hopes for it to come out right and (b) am impatient.
In the meantime, I just downloaded Avidemux and am going to see what it's like. The idea of re-clipping the minute and a half I've already clipped together kind of... really pisses me off, but at this point, I'm just getting really, really fidgety every time I stop working on it. Edit: Avidemux wants me to MANUALLY resize every fucking video I want to use to be the same resolution first. Fuck. That.
Arctic came over earlier, and used some software that came with her video mp3 player in order to convert a .vob I ripped from my DVD but which still hated me into .wmv format, and IT came out absolutely gorgeous and high-quality and WMM stopped glitching at
it, so. I am kind of tempted to tell her to come back over so I can use her computer to convert this fucking .avi. I'd ask for the damn software, but she doesn't know where the disc is and this AMV... kind of has to be postmarked by July 1st in order to make it into MechaCon's contest. Yes, I know I am cutting it the mother of close. I'm tempted to just copy the program from her Program Files folder and see if it works properly when stapled into my hard drive. At the SAME TIME, though, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have DivX codecs on her computer, and I don't know how much she'd gnash her teeth at me if I tried to slap 'em on there. *shrug!*
Complain complain complain. BASICALLY I need some advice from anyone at all who has a clue.
Does anyone know a decent file converter that will convert a DivX-encoded .avi file into a .wmv of similar quality WITHOUT spazzing on me like Super(C) is doing, or know how long Zamzar usually takes to return a file/if it'll code a DivX-encoded .avi right?
Alternately, does anyone know of a free video editing program with similar features to Windows Movie Maker? (I need something that can slow videos down to half speed and speed them up to double, cumulative on each if possible; I need also to be able to clip videos apart INDEPENDENTLY of the audio file I'm using. The last program someone recommended to me? Automatically linked the video, when fed into the timeline, to the audio track, meaning that whenever I clipped the video, the track clipped too and I had to reload the audio over and over. :| I gave up on that one after about fifteen minutes.)
Watch. After this post I'll magically find something that can convert this fucking thing and have wasted all this time (and my breath) for no reason, or WMM will stop spazzing on its own (ha), or I'll fall madly in love with Avidemux and never look back. WE CAN HOPE. Gawd I want to get that conversion program from Arc. DX
